I had both my knees replaced, the right one in 2008 which went like clockwork, the left one in April 2009 which has been really challenging. The left one developed a serious infection a month after the operation, which took weeks to clear. Then I had to have a manipulation under anaesthetic because I lost a huge range of movement in it. Despite lots of physiotherapy it has never been as good as the right knee, it often gives way and I still have some pain.

The surgeon has recently said to me that I need the patella re-surfaced in the left knee. Has anyone had this procedure done after a knee replacement? I am so concerned whether it is worth the risk in case it becomes infected again and I end up with a more painful knee. It's such a difficult decision to make.

Any advise would be so much appreciated.

Rebecca
